Why do narcissists get so angry when they’re confronted?
Before that question gets answered, you first need to know what is a narcissistic injury?
Narcissistic people are highly shame avoidant things like holding them accountable, confronting them, showing that they did something wrong.
These things cause a narcissistic injury, and because of their shame avoidance, they can’t accept that they’ve actually done something wrong.
My own therapist always said they can’t sit in the shame of what they’ve done. So their natural reflex is to deny that they did anything wrong to begin with.
At the very core of a narcissist is a shame based person with low self-esteem. They only act grandiose and superior as a mask. They refuse to acknowledge their shortfalls, and so they use anger to deflect.
It’s a manipulation tactic to drive the attention away from what they’ve done to something else.
Typically you, they’ll often use the tactic of DARVO Deny Attack, Reverse Victim and Offender.
