Here’s what attendees had to say:

“I enjoyed listening to the questions that were asked; they were the same ones I had in my head.” – Sue J.

The expert panel was asked over 25 questions, including these ones:

  • What makes up a person’s identity? When does our identity form and can we change ourselves?
  • What do you think we as a society are taught about self-love? Is it different for men and women?
  • What advice do you have for someone who struggles with their body image after they have experienced abuse?
  • Let’s talk about self-kindness and self-compassion. What do these things mean? In what ways do we bully ourselves? How can we reframe the way we talk to ourselves?
  • What is a boundary? Why do we struggle so much with setting boundaries, really HOLDING them? Why do we often feel selfish and how can we challenge that?
  • How much of a role does mindset play in building your sense of self after trauma? What are some specific techniques we can use to shift our mindset?
  • When working towards healing, setbacks are inevitable. How can we manage these, rather than avoid them?
  • What is visualization exercise that people can use to help believe that it is possible and be able to take real steps toward their future?

“It was nice to hear specific things like Purge + Witness and taking control of your mindset by building on the small self confidences.” – Julia F.

“Purge and witness” is a therapeutic technique commonly used in the context of healing trauma. Have you heard of this? It involves allowing individuals to express and release their traumatic experiences and emotions in a safe and supported environment, while others serve as witnesses to their healing process.   Listen to Jacki Carlson, Trauma Informed Dating & Confidence Coach, go over exactly how to do this.  “Purging” refers to the act of releasing pent-up emotions, memories, and sensations related to the trauma.   “Witnessing” refers to the presence and support provided by others during the purging process.  The combination of purging and witnessing allows individuals to confront and process their traumatic experiences, facilitating the release of suppressed emotions and promoting healing.

“This was so great. I wish it was longer!” – Caroline D.
